Mexico's FGR dismantles four illegal fuel‑processing sites
The Federal Attorney General (FGR), together with the Specialized Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office (FEMDO), the Secretariat of Security and Civilian Protection (SSPC), the National Guard and Pemex Logística, carried out coordinated raids in three Mexican states – San Luis Potosí (two sites), Hidalgo and Morelos – to dismantle four clandestine fuel‑processing centers linked to the illicit “huachicol” trade.
The operations were triggered by anonymous citizen tips about constant tanker truck traffic at a warehouse in the municipality of San Luis Potosí. Seizures included eight 80,000‑liter storage tanks, eight horizontal cylinders, six vertical cylinders and 894 one‑thousand‑liter containers at the San Luis Potosí municipal site; a second San Luis Potosí property in Laguna de San Vicente yielded 18 vertical tanks, two production lines and roughly 40,000 L of crude oil and diesel; in Tizayuca, Hidalgo, investigators recovered 32 one‑thousand‑liter and 25 five‑thousand‑liter containers along with about 456,300 L of hydrocarbon‑like substance; and in Cuautla, Morelos, additional equipment and documentation were confiscated. In total, roughly 1.0–1.2 million liters of petroleum products (about 6,900 barrels) were seized, together with machinery, generators, computers, a pickup truck and security clamps. No arrests were reported. President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that the sites are processing centers, not refineries, and the operation follows earlier raids that uncovered similar facilities in Cadereyta and Reynosa.
