Mexico debate intensifies over new media audience rights guidelines
Mexican political leaders and opposition figures are raising alarms over proposed 'Rights of the Audiences' guidelines, which critics argue could lead to government-led censorship of the media.
Opposition senators, including Ricardo Anaya and Rubén Moreira Valdez, warn that the regulations grant the government excessive power to determine what constitutes true or false information. They highlight concerns regarding potential economic sanctions, which could reach up to one percent of a media outlet's annual income, potentially forcing self-censorship.
