Mexico's Bolsa Mexicana posts 2.74% weekly rise as Derivatives Challenge wraps up

The Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV) closed the week up 2.74%, marking a rebound after six consecutive sessions of decline. The main index (IPC) rose to 67,954.55 points, with notable gains in América Móvil (+10.2%), Televisa (+7.68%), Volaris (+7.41%), Grupo Carso (+6.71%) and Banorte (+6.31%). Trading volume reached 200.7 million shares worth roughly 20.9 billion pesos (about 1.2 billion USD), and the Mexican peso edged slightly higher to 17.23 per dollar.

Separately, Grupo Bolsa Mexicana de Valores concluded the first edition of the Desafío MexDer, a three‑week simulated derivatives competition for students, investors and professionals. More than 1,500 participants executed over 53,000 virtual trades in futures on the US dollar and the S&P/BMV IPC. Winners were Fernando Jaico Vélez (first place, virtual return of 8.2 billion pesos), Jorge Alberto González Navarrete (second, 2.7 billion) and Juan Enrique Martínez Carmona (third, 736 million), receiving cash prizes of 100,000, 50,000 and 25,000 pesos respectively. The event aims to strengthen financial education in Mexico.
