Mexico's CFE Grapples with Widespread Power Outages and Protests

Residents of rural communities near Medellín de Bravo have warned they will block highways unless the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) resolves week‑long, intermittent blackouts that have left hundreds without cooling or reliable power.

A COPARMEX Chihuahua survey reports that nine out of ten member companies experienced outages in the past month, with many suffering equipment damage and losses exceeding 10,000 pesos.

The CFE has dismissed claims of prolonged blackouts in Querétaro, stating the average restoration time is about 5.7 hours and noting a 40 % reduction in interruptions compared with 2025.

The agency also announced scheduled, temporary power suspensions in Quintana Roo and Yucatán to perform maintenance and modernize infrastructure, urging residents to prepare for the planned outages.
