CFE rolls out nationwide maintenance and outage response plans across Mexico
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) said the national power system remains stable, with an installed capacity of 62,712 MW and a reserve margin of 14.76 % as summer demand peaks at a projected 55,600 MW. To keep the grid reliable, CFE is carrying out preventive maintenance and infrastructure upgrades in several states.
In Quintana Roo, CFE and the state government signed a joint action plan for rural communities, including transformer balancing, tree trimming, meter checks and cleaning of power lines in Bacalar, Othón P. Blanco and Limones. In Sonora, the utility will replace 21 medium‑voltage structures, trim 150 trees, install 30 arrester banks and invest 21.8 million pesos from the Universal Energy Service Fund in 141 electrification projects across 13 municipalities.
CFE also announced a new substation in Acuña, slated to begin construction in January 2027, and clarified that no special “Casa por casa” inspection program will be launched in 2026. Meanwhile, repeated power outages have been reported in Cabo San Lucas and other regions, prompting complaints from users in Sinaloa about bills as high as 90,000 pesos and concerns in Yucatán that outages are driving inflation. State officials in the State of Mexico called for a restructuring of the regional electric system, citing industrial and commercial disruptions.
