Mexico's CFE Plans New Substation for Alvarado Region

Mexico's state-owned utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) intends to build a new electrical substation in the Riviera Veracruzana to address frequent power cuts in Alvarado and nearby communities. Municipal president Alberto Cobos confirmed the project is under review, with land‑permit issues still pending. Two possible sites are being considered: the Conchal area and a location in La Aguada/Antón Lizardo. If the approvals proceed without major delays, the substation could become operational within one to two years.

The facility will serve a broad zone extending from the Riviera to La Piedra, covering towns such as El Hato, Zapote, Antón Lizardo, Mata de Uva, Las Barrancas and others. While the exact capacity has not yet been disclosed, the goal is to provide a more stable electricity supply to rural communities that have historically been left out of infrastructure upgrades.
