Mexico's CFE reports net profit decline in first half of 2026

The state-owned utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) posted a net profit of 47.6 billion pesos for the January‑June 2026 period, a 30.7% drop from the same period a year earlier. Operating profit rose 15.2% to 72.2 billion pesos, helped by lower natural‑gas prices that cut sales of fuels and energy‑transport services.

Total revenue fell 2.2% to 332.2 billion pesos, with electricity sales remaining the main source at about 73.6% of revenue (≈244.5 billion pesos). Government subsidies for electricity tariffs amounted to 52.7 billion pesos, representing 15.9% of CFE’s income and increasing 3.5% year‑on‑year. The decline in net profit was driven by reduced foreign‑exchange gains and higher financial expenses. The company’s net assets grew 41.6% to 911 billion pesos, while short‑term debt fell 38.5% and long‑term debt rose 14.1%, leaving 82.1% of financial liabilities on a long‑term basis.
