Mexico's CFE under pressure as neighborhoods endure week-long power outages

Residents of the Las Quintas district, near the galgódromo, have been without electricity for more than a week during intense heat. They report that the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has repeatedly failed to restore service, even after a payment of 1,500 pesos for repairs, and that the utility’s app marks the problem as "solved" despite ongoing outages. The community says the lack of reliable power jeopardizes the health of elderly residents.

In the Valle de las Torres colonia of León, inhabitants have been without electricity for over 24 hours. They have filed at least five reports with CFE—providing folio numbers such as P0706732970 and P0706733107—but say the utility has not responded. Residents fear spoilage of food, loss of medication that requires refrigeration, and increased risk for seniors. One neighbor said, "Mi temor es que se vayan a descomponer mis aparatos electrónicos," while another added, "Mi mamá ya es una persona mayor, ya tiene 86 años, y sin luz pues sí quiero ver cómo está." Both cases highlight persistent problems with CFE’s service and communication.
