Mexico's Chamber of Deputies reviews ethics complaint and INE leadership crisis

Ricardo Monreal, president of the Chamber of Deputies' Coordination Board, announced that the Ethics Committee has begun a preliminary technical analysis of a complaint filed by the Movimiento Ciudadano parliamentary group. The complaint concerns incidents that occurred within the legislative building on October 20.

Separately, the Chamber of Deputies faces political pressure regarding Guadalupe Taddei, the counselor-president of the National Electoral Institute (INE), who has declined to resign. Legal experts suggest that if Taddei does not step down, the Chamber could initiate political impeachment proceedings or seek removal through criminal charges related to alleged irregularities in institutional contracts.

Monreal noted that the Chamber cannot directly demand her resignation but called for reflection on the situation. Under Article 41 of the Constitution, a substitute must be elected if an absolute vacancy occurs during the first six years of a counselor's term.
