Mexico's Civil Protection Agency warns of landslide risk as heavy rains surge

The National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) issued alerts for July 1‑2, 2026, urging residents across a wide swath of Mexico to reinforce safety measures as intense rainfall and strong winds are forecast. Forecasts call for 50‑75 mm of rain in states such as Chihuahua, Durango, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco, with lighter but still heavy precipitation expected in many other regions.

The agency highlighted heightened danger of floods, landslides and elevated Pacific‑coast wave heights of one to two metres. Recommendations include securing roof objects, avoiding crossing rivers or flooded areas, cleaning streets and drainage channels, updating family emergency plans, and keeping emergency kits with water, food, documents, flashlight and battery‑powered radio. CNPC stressed that information should be taken only from official government and meteorological sources.
