Mexico's Conagua expands flood defenses and monitoring across Veracruz and Pacific basin

The National Water Commission (Conagua) is completing the second phase of a flood‑protection wall on the Bobos River in Veracruz’s municipalities of Misantla and Martínez de la Torre. The ten‑kilometre structure, built under President Claudia Sheinbaum’s direction, cost about 700 million pesos and aims to shield the communities of La Constancia, La Reforma, Troncones, La Defensa and Felipe Carrillo Puerto from extreme rains, while also generating local jobs and commerce.

Conagua’s Pacific South basin is also strengthening its real‑time monitoring network and emergency response protocols for the rainy season. The agency operates climatological, pluviometric and hydrometric stations, issues frequent forecasts and alerts, and deploys specialized brigades equipped with pumps, water‑treatment trucks and power generators. Coordination with civil protection and the national meteorological service is intended to prevent floods, ensure safe water supply and accelerate recovery after events.
