Mexico's Electoral Tribunal reverses women's candidacy rules in Jalisco, Morena blamed

The Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TEPJF) annulled a local rule that reserved exclusive candidacies for women in eight municipalities of Jalisco, ruling it violated party autonomy. Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) attributed the setback to the ruling party Morena, saying the decision reverses progress for women's political participation in the state.

MC announced it will focus on guaranteeing real access for women in the upcoming 2027 elections after the tribunal's ruling.

The dispute highlights ongoing tensions over gender parity measures in Mexican local politics.
