Mexico's electrical grid faces pressure from heat and electric vehicles

Energy specialists warn that Mexico's electrical infrastructure faces increasing pressure due to rising temperatures and shifting consumption patterns. In Veracruz, frequent power outages are being driven by higher average temperatures and the widespread use of air conditioning units, which demand significant electrical loads. Experts note that rising temperatures in the region could impact distribution networks that require urgent investment.

In Chiapas, the growth of electromobility is expected to add further strain to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) network. The increasing number of private electric vehicles and corporate fleets will raise electricity demand, potentially exacerbating existing overloads during high-temperature seasons. To prevent impacts on supply quality and continuity, specialists suggest that the expansion of electric vehicles must be accompanied by the modernization of transmission and distribution networks, as well as national public policies tailored to local conditions.
