Mexico's Exports to United States Hit Highest Share Since 2006

Data released for September 2023 show that 82.7 % of Mexico’s total exports were sent to the United States, the strongest monthly concentration recorded since 2006, when the share was 83.3 %. The figure underscores the deep integration of the two economies under the NAFTA/T‑MEC framework.

Analysts note that Mexico’s share of U.S. imports has also risen, reaching 15.7 % by the end of 2025 and climbing to 16.9 % in the first four months of the current year. The U.S. views the Mexican trade relationship as distinct from its broader deficits with Asian suppliers, emphasizing the coproduction and intermediate‑goods component that characterises North‑American trade. While the heavy reliance on the U.S. market raises concerns about vulnerability to policy shifts, the trend reflects continued commercial interdependence between the neighboring nations.
