Mexico's Exports to United States Reach Record High in First Four Months of 2026
Mexico’s export value to the United States climbed to a historic $188.723 billion between January and April 2026, marking a 9.1 % annual increase – the fastest growth in four years. Imports from the United States also rose 14.9 % to $128.613 billion, leaving Mexico with a trade surplus of $60.11 billion, 1.7 % lower than the same period a year earlier.
Bilateral trade between the two nations grew 11.4 %, keeping Mexico as the United States’ top trading partner with a total exchange of $317.336 billion, followed by Canada ($240.895 billion), China and Taiwan. In April alone, Mexican exports to the United States jumped 21.1 % year‑on‑year to $50.692 billion, and Mexico was the United States’ leading supplier for that month with $86.036 billion, ahead of Canada’s $64.769 billion. China fell to fourth place as a U.S. partner while Taiwan moved to third. The trade surge occurs as the United States‑Mexico‑Canada Agreement (T‑MEC) remains under renegotiation.
