Reynosa clandestine refinery seized with 3.7 million liters of illegal fuel

On 25 July 2026, Mexican federal forces seized a clandestine refinery in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, confiscating 3,769,500 liters of illicit hydrocarbons – an amount officials say is worth about 90 million pesos. The operation was carried out jointly by the Army, the National Guard, the Federal Attorney's Office (FGR) and Pemex security personnel. Authorities reported the site housed seven vertical storage tanks, eleven mobile “frac‑tank” units (each around 80 000 L capacity), a network of industrial pipelines, three power generators and a fleet of fourteen vehicles (six tractor‑trucks, seven tank‑liners, one platform trailer). No arrests were announced at the time. Within 48 hours a second rural site in the same municipality was raided, yielding an additional 109,400 liters of fuel and further storage equipment, including three vertical tanks, eighteen horizontal cylinders, a mobile frac‑tank, two tractor‑trucks, two tank‑liners, twelve motobombas and a video‑surveillance system. All seized material has been turned over to the FGR’s investigation team, which is compiling a case file to identify the owners and source of the fuel. The authorities emphasized that the seizure represents one of the largest anti‑huachicol actions recorded in Tamaulipas.
