Mexico's Governors Boost Sustainable Development in Baja California and Quintana Roo

Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda of Baja California opened the Expo Ambiente 2026 in San Quintín on World Environment Day, emphasizing youth participation in ecological projects and appointing Mathilde Rivera Trujillo as the first woman to lead the state's Agricultural Council. The event highlighted plans for sustainable agriculture and natural‑resource conservation in the region.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa of Quintana Roo reiterated the state’s commitment to sustainable development in a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum. She announced ecotourism initiatives in Mahahual, protection of mangroves and reefs, and the development of a circular‑economy approach to sargassum. The governor also disclosed a 197.5 million‑peso investment for road infrastructure, Plaza del Faro renovation, and malecón beautification to improve local livelihoods.
