Mexico's Green Party expands outreach, seeks tougher environmental enforcement

State leader Pepe Estefan Gillessen of the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) headed regional citizen forums in Oaxaca’s Papaloapan basin and the Istmo de Tehuantepec. The meetings gathered local leaders, community representatives and party officials to discuss sustainable development, environmental protection and social welfare, part of a strategy to strengthen the party’s structure across eight Oaxacan regions.

The PVEM also praised a joint operation by the Fiscalía General de la República and the Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente in San Luis Potosí that rescued five wildlife specimens and seized four taxidermy pieces. The party reiterated its proposal that the Guardia Nacional provide mandatory accompaniment to environmental inspectors to improve safety and effectiveness in combating biodiversity crimes nationwide.
