Mexico's Guelaguetza and Zacatecas Festival showcase international cuisine and culture
The Guelaguetza cultural exhibition, featuring Oaxacan food, crafts, music and dance, concluded its month‑long stay in Mérida on Sunday, 2 August. Free to the public from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the showcase was set up in the parking lot of Estadio Kukulcán and will continue its tour in the state of Campeche.
In Zacatecas, the penultimate day of the 2026 Festival Zacatecas del Folclor Internacional “Gustavo Vaquera Contreras” highlighted international gastronomy. Foreign resident communities presented traditional dishes, while the Instituto Zacatecano de Cultura, led by María de Jesús Muñoz Reyes on behalf of Governor David Monreal Ávila, honored 97‑year‑old Don Agustín Reséndez Delgado for his lifelong contribution to local traditions. The program also included performances by the Croatian folk ensemble Matija Gubec.
Both events emphasized cultural exchange through food, music and artisanal displays, reinforcing Mexico’s regional diversity and its connections with global traditions.
