Mexico's Huatulco and Saltillo host turtle conservation festival and urban tree‑planting campaign
In Huatulco, Oaxaca, the municipal government and environmental agencies organized the TORTUFEST 2026 on World Sea Turtle Day. The event featured schoolchildren, teachers, families and NGOs in workshops, games, a environmental lottery and a sand‑sculpture contest to raise awareness of marine‑turtle protection and coastal ecosystem preservation.
In Saltillo, Coahuila, volunteers gathered for the national launch of the “Un Nuevo Bosque para Brindar un Mundo Mejor” reforestation campaign. Funded by Fundación Azteca, Heineken México and partners, more than 1,000 native trees and shrubs were planted in the Ejército Mexicano Urban Forest, aiming to improve local water infiltration, biodiversity and climate regulation. The campaign will travel to other Mexican cities in the coming months.
