Claudia Sheinbaum unveils multi‑billion health tech upgrade in Mexico

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a comprehensive modernization of Mexico’s public health system, adding 42 state‑of‑the‑art CT scanners—41 with 256‑slice capability—installed in 40 IMSS hospitals across 19 states. Each unit cost about 29 million pesos, reduced scan time from minutes to seconds and raised daily capacity to roughly 50 studies per site.

The plan also expands telemedicine in the ISSSTE to 859 units, enabling remote specialist consultations, and the “La Clínica es Nuestra” program allocated 4.608 billion pesos to upgrade 8,483 medical units under IMSS‑Bienestar. Additional measures include over 20 million “Salud Casa por Casa” consultations, the rollout of Farmacias del Bienestar, and investment in internet‑enabled health records. Veracruz is among the states slated to receive the new equipment.
