Mexico's IMSS records 22.7 million job positions in May 2026

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported 22,718,681 jobs registered as of 31 May 2026, the highest total recorded for the month of May. Permanent jobs accounted for 86.8 % (19,730,767) and temporary jobs 13.2 %. A monthly decline of 29,922 positions (‑0.1 %) was linked to seasonal slowdown in the agricultural sector and the removal of a fraudulent employer registration.

Employer registrations reached 1,015,999 units. Over the year, job count grew by 346,637 positions (1.5 % YoY). Sectors with notable gains included transport and communications (+41,290 jobs), construction (+22,244), social services (+21,658), manufacturing (+15,777) and extractives (+3,982). The average base salary for the registered jobs rose to 671.3 pesos, the highest May figure on record, up 41.3 pesos (6.6 %) from the previous year.
