Mexico's IMSS upgrades hospitals with new angiography system and MRI

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) has expanded high‑technology medical equipment at two of its facilities. In Nuevo León, the UMAE Hospital de Cardiología No. 34 in Monterrey received a state‑of‑the‑art angiography unit that projects two high‑resolution images simultaneously, reducing procedural risk and improving diagnostic accuracy for pediatric and adult heart patients. The institute reports an average of seven procedures per day with the new system, complementing a recently installed 3‑tesla magnetic resonance scanner at Hospital de Especialidades No. 25.

In Mexico City, IMSS completed a 22,000‑square‑metre modernization of the Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, investing roughly 360 million pesos. The renovation upgraded 20 operating rooms, enhanced intensive‑care and neonatal units, doubled bone‑marrow transplant beds from four to eight, added six pre‑recovery beds, and increased hemodialysis capacity to 13 chairs. The project also refurbished 68 sanitary cores and installed a new magnetic resonance imaging system costing about 40 million pesos for neurology, oncology and cardiology diagnostics. These upgrades aim to boost patient safety, expand treatment capacity and modernize the public health system.
