Mexico's IMSS urges child health checks amid rising Covid-19 cases
The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Veracruz South is calling on parents and guardians to bring children to their assigned Family Medicine Units for preventive medical examinations during the summer vacation. The check‑ups will assess weight, height, nutrition, vaccination status, vision, hearing and oral health, and provide guidance on healthy diet, physical activity and accident prevention.
At the same time, Mexico is experiencing a seasonal increase in Covid‑19 infections, particularly in the central region. As of 2026, 709 cases and 21 deaths have been confirmed nationwide, with a notable rise in Morelos. Experts attribute the surge to the typical summer wave and warn that older adults and children under five remain vulnerable, even though the overall severity is lower than earlier in the pandemic.
