Michoacán Protection Civil urges flood safety measures

The State Coordination of Protection Civil in Michoacán warned that heavy rains are expected across several regions of the state. It urged residents to move vehicles to higher ground before streets become flooded, avoid crossing rivers, streams or inundated roads, and to keep an emergency backpack with documents, medication, a flashlight, a phone charger and clothing. The agency also advised keeping mobile phones charged, staying away from saturated drains, and not parking under trees or structures that could collapse. Similar safety recommendations were issued by the Protection Civil of Ciudad Juárez, which called on families to prepare emergency kits and a family protection plan for the storm season. The Conagua delegate for Michoacán reminded that cleaning and maintenance of rivers and drains in Morelia are the responsibility of the municipal government, a duty highlighted after recent floods that affected several neighborhoods. Authorities asked the public to report emergencies to 911 (or 109 in Ciudad Juárez) and to follow official channels for updates.
