Mexico's INE cuts new voter ID delivery time to 15 days

The National Electoral Institute (INE) reported that, as of 24 July 2026, more than 2.7 million applications for the new voter ID model have been processed. Production has reached over 2.69 million credentials, and 2.58 million have already been distributed to Módulos de Atención Ciudadana (MAC) across the country.

Because of the increased output, the institute reduced the guaranteed delivery period from 20 days to 15 natural days and said it will gradually return to its ordinary timelines. The new credential incorporates enhanced physical, optical, digital and cryptographic security features, and INE continues to monitor suppliers and contract compliance. Citizens can verify the status of their ID through official INE channels or the INETEL telephone centre.
