Mexico's international tourism rises 8.1% in April, leads North America in 2025 growth

In April 2026 Mexico received 8.28 million international visitors, an 8.1 % increase over April 2025. Border‑area tourists grew 15.1 % to 1.76 million, while arrivals by air fell 8.2 % to 1.74 million. Total tourism spending dropped 2.3 % year‑on‑year to US$2.972 billion and the average spend per visitor fell 9.6 % to US$358.6.

For the full year 2025 Mexico welcomed 47.78 million tourists, 6.1 % more than 2024, generating US$34.99 billion in foreign‑exchange earnings and a 1.3 % rise in tourism‑related GDP. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, Mexico’s travel‑and‑tourism GDP grew 1.8 % in 2025, outpacing the United States (0.9 %) and Canada (1.2 %). Visitor spending rose 3.5 % while arrivals grew 6.1 %, versus declines in the neighbouring markets. Analysts expect the 2026 FIFA World Cup to further boost regional tourism, emphasizing the need for investment in connectivity, infrastructure and digital innovation.
