Mexico's Kenia López Rabadán calls for non‑repression of World Cup protests

Deputy Kenia López Rabadán, president of the Chamber of Deputies, warned Mexican authorities not to repress demonstrators ahead of the FIFA World Cup. She emphasized that protestors – including "madres buscadoras" seeking justice for forced disappearances – have a right to be heard and that any heavy‑handed response would damage Mexico’s international image.

López Rabadán linked the domestic human‑rights crisis, citing 134,874 reported disappearances, to the country’s foreign‑policy agenda. She urged the government to provide solutions and to present Mexico as a nation that respects citizens’ rights while the global spotlight of the World Cup intensifies scrutiny of its justice system.
