Mexico's Morena and PAN gear up for municipal candidate selections
State Morena leader Luz Ma. Hernández announced that a call for applications will be issued this month to begin selecting coordinators for the 4T Defense in municipalities. The internal process will ban billboards, attacks on other aspirants and large public demonstrations. Candidates will be chosen through daily surveys, with political trajectory and incumbent performance also taken into account.
Meanwhile, PAN officials are debating potential candidates for their coordinator posts ahead of the 2027 municipal elections. Names mentioned include former Senate president Lupita Murguía, Lorena García, Sonia Rocha, Tania Palacios and others. The discussion highlighted the role of internal surveys, gender considerations, and strategic alliances in determining the party’s slate.
Both parties stress procedural rules and internal vetting as they prepare their municipal election slates.
