PVEM negotiates 2027 alliances with Morena, PT as state tensions rise

Party Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) officials are weighing coalition options for the 2027 elections. In San Luis Potosí, state leader Ignacio Segura Morquecho said tables for dialogue with Morena and the Labor Party (PT) have not yet been opened, leaving any alliance uncertain. National coordinator Arturo Escobar similarly noted that the party will not register candidates in certain states and will follow the Instituto Nacional Electoral’s timetable starting in December.

In Chihuahua, PVEM has conditioned its participation on the candidacy of mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, while Morena’s state leadership affirmed it will keep the alliance but remains prepared for either a joint or solo run. The party’s leader in Tamaulipas, Manuel Muñoz Cano, announced PVEM will run its own candidates in 2027 after a “bad experience” with external nominees.

Analysts report that in ten of the seventeen states where governorships will be contested, tensions between PVEM, PT and Morena threaten the stability of their coalition, as each party backs different local candidates. These disputes could shape the composition of the broader opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
