Mexico's Morena defends election reform and backs governor amid organized‑crime claims

Mayor Marco Bonilla of Chihuahua posted a video supporting Governor Maru Campos, condemning the state Morena caucus for voting against a sanction that would bar parties and candidates linked to organized crime. He argued that protecting such figures endangers Mexico’s economy and sovereignty.

Morena parliamentary coordinator Cuauhtémoc Estrada Sotelo rebutted PAN accusations that the party opposed a "blindage" of elections. He said Morena introduced Initiative 1636, which adopted the PAN proposal and added provisions to address foreign interference and create a Commission of Integrity to screen candidates. Estrada accused PAN, PRI, MC and Verde legislators of voting against the measure and called their claims false, reaffirming Morena’s commitment to safeguarding democratic processes.
