Mexico's Morena party enforces anti‑nepotism rule and bans public funds in internal elections

The national leadership of Mexico’s Morena party confirmed that its anti‑nepotism rule will be strictly applied to internal candidate selections for the 2027 elections. The party’s electoral commission, led by Citlalli Hernández, barred Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio from entering the Guerrero internal race because he is a close relative of the state governor, Evelyn Salgado Pineda. The decision was final after the appeal period, with only a technical age‑related appeal recorded in Nuevo León.

In Sonora, party council president David Mendoza clarified that internal aspirants may not use public money, rent billboards, or hold large-scale events. Candidates are also prohibited from personal promotion, being allowed only to highlight the Fourth Transformation and national sovereignty. Any violations can be reported to Morena’s Commission of Honesty and Justice.
