Morena party officials in State of Mexico demand fair candidate selection for 2027 elections

Morena activists from several municipalities in the State of Mexico – including Otzolotepec, Toluca, San Felipe del Progreso, Zinacantepec and Tenancingo – called on state and national party leadership to refrain from favoring any individual when designating candidates for the intermediate elections scheduled for 2027. They urged that candidacies be allocated to the party base rather than to "chapulines" and advocated transparent criteria that consider community experience, gender perspective, ethical standards and the exclusion of candidates with histories of violence, abuse, legal issues or debt.

Separately, state party president Erick Reyes faced criticism for publicly disparaging aspiring coordinators, allegedly endorsing Pablo Gutiérrez while excluding other contenders such as Carlos Ucán and Roberto Reyes Jiménez. Party members said Reyes’s behavior deepens internal divisions and undermines a level playing field for internal competition.

Both groups emphasized the need for internal democracy within Morena to ensure credible candidate selection ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
