Morena initiates 2027 gubernatorial candidate selection process
Morena, together with its coalition partners the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist Party (PVEM), announced a joint internal call to select state coordinators for the "Defensa de la Transformación y la Soberanía Nacional" ahead of the 2027 elections. Registrations will run from 22 to 27 June 2026 at the World Trade Center in Mexico City, with a hybrid (in‑person and online) system. Candidates must resign any public office, cannot have close family ties to incumbent governors, and must meet gender‑parity rules – three men and three women per state – with a maximum of six finalists proceeding to a public survey stage. The coalition emphasized transparency, the need to defend President‑elect Claudia Sheinbaum’s projects, and the avoidance of internal disputes. Specific state dates were noted, such as Quintana Roo on 26 June. Party leaders Ariadna Montiel (Morena), Karen Castrejón (PVEM) and Alberto Anaya (PT) highlighted the process as a disciplined, unified effort to secure the coalition’s hegemony in the upcoming gubernatorial contests.
