Mexico's Nuevo Laredo and Cuauhtémoc mayors outline 2027‑2030 political ambitions

Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas of Nuevo Laredo said she will not seek another term as municipal president or run for a federal deputy seat, but will remain available to serve the Morena party wherever it needs her in the 2027 elections. She emphasized her commitment to the party’s transformation agenda in Tamaulipas and noted personal considerations after two terms in office.

Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, confirmed her intention to run for re‑election in the 2027 mid‑term elections and hinted at a possible bid for the Mexico City head‑of‑government position in 2030. She criticised the current administration’s security policies, recalled the high violence of the 2024 elections, and called for a crackdown on organized crime and improvements in city infrastructure.

Both officials framed their statements as efforts to strengthen local governance and align with Morena’s broader political strategy.
