Governor Ricardo Gallardo proposes free water for lone seniors and faces protest over Ley Serrano

San Luis Potosí Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona announced two legislative initiatives: the state would cover water bills for seniors living alone, and users would not be charged for periods without water service. He said the measures aim to aid isolated older adults and address complaints about receiving bills despite supply interruptions.

Earlier in the week, about 200 demonstrators gathered at the state congress to protest the controversial “Ley Serrano,” which they say restricts freedom of expression and affects transport, agrarian and labor issues. Gallardo labeled the rally “municipalized,” declined to elaborate on the protesters’ demands, and avoided confronting the political dispute.

Gallardo also took part in a public celebration of Mexico’s 3‑0 victory over the Czech Republic at the Estadio Libertad Financiera, highlighting community cohesion and family-friendly entertainment.
