Overview
Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona continues to tout a sharp homicide decline while advancing infrastructure and security projects ahead of the 2027 race. The second phase of the Vía Alterna Sur now reaches Highway 80, linking the WTC and Logistik I‑II parks with Highway 37 toward Villa de Reyes and a Querétaro connection. On 17 July the governor opened a new Vía Alterna in Villa de Pozos, a 100‑million‑peso bypass that joins Federal Highways 70 and 57, cutting travel time to about eight minutes for roughly 98 000 residents and transport workers. The ceremony also launched the reconstruction of Calle California in San Nicolás de Jassos, part of an 850‑million‑peso allocation for Villa de Pozos infrastructure in its first municipal year. Operativo Verano Seguro 2026, launched 4 July, has deployed more than 1,500 personnel across all 59 municipalities, intensifying patrols, surveillance and community actions through 31 August, especially on highways, tourist sites and recreation centres, using ground and aerial assets, C5i2 video‑surveillance and support from civil protection, the Red Cross and the tourism secretariat. Transport upgrades include suburban bus lines for Cerro de San Pedro, extended Red Metro service to 10:10 p.m., and mobility studies in San Luis Potosí, Soledad de Graciano Sánchez and Villa de Pozos. The lower section of Circuito Potosí is 80 % complete and will open before the Feria Nacional Potosina on 7 August. A joint‑security framework with Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch expands National Guard, armed forces, state police and prosecutors on highways and strategic zones. On 16 July Mayor Enrique Galindo Ceballos inaugurated the permanent Industrial Zone Security Council, a standing coordination body with legal personality, dedicated budget and a special commissioner, tasked with 24‑hour patrols serving about 120 000 workers and visitors.
