Peru mining exports surge 56% while Mexican states see sharp mining export gains in Q1 2026

Peru’s mining sector drove a 56.2% increase in export earnings in the January‑March 2026 period, reaching US$21.65 billion and representing 75.4% of the country’s total exports. Copper, gold, lead, silver and zinc accounted for the bulk of this growth, supporting the nation’s foreign‑exchange earnings.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that mining‑related fiscal revenues topped 15 billion soles in the first four months of 2026, with direct employment at a record 278,000 jobs and investment exceeding $2.05 billion. Mining royalties and fees contributed more than 4.1 billion soles to regional infrastructure and development projects.

In Mexico, state‑level data showed divergent trends. Coahuila’s overall exports fell 2.3% YoY to $14.89 billion, but its mining exports jumped 75.6%. Sonora recorded a 33.8% rise in mining export value to $988.7 million, placing the state fourth nationally and making mining 14.9% of its export basket. Nationally, Mexican exports grew 17.9% YoY to $158.12 billion, led by Chihuahua, Jalisco and other key states, with the mining sector contributing a 6.8% increase.
