Mexico's SAT blocks 2,205 companies from issuing invoices over illegal fuel sales

The Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT) has blocked 2,205 fuel trading companies from issuing invoices between October 2024 and August 2026. This action targets entities involved in illegal fuel sales and tax evasion.

President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that many of these companies operated as ‘factureras,’ meaning they issued invoices for fuel transport and sales without actually moving any product. These entities often utilized a scheme of creating companies that operated for very short periods—sometimes as little as seven days—before disappearing and being replaced by new ones to evade detection.

The crackdown is part of a broader government strategy to combat hydrocarbon smuggling and fiscal irregularities. The administration has also reinforced controls regarding the creation and operation of businesses to prevent such transient fraudulent schemes.
