Mexico's SAT refunds and Credit Bureau debt deletions set for 2026

In May 2026 the Mexican tax authority (SAT) began daily online monitoring of tax refunds for individuals after the 2025 annual filing. Refunds are processed in three statuses – validation, payment (typically 3–10 business days, up to 40 days legally), or rejection – and errors such as incorrect bank CLABE, faulty CFDI, or mismatched deductions can delay payments. Refunds exceeding MX $10,000 require an e‑signature, and taxpayers have five years to claim unrefunded balances.

In June 2026 the Buró de Crédito announced automatic removal of certain debt records. Debts under 25 UDIS are erased after one year, those between 25 UDIS and 500 UDIS after two years, 500‑1,000 UDIS after four years, and debts over 1,000 UDIS may remain up to six years unless fraud or litigation exists. This cleanup aims to improve credit histories for millions of Mexicans, helping them regain access to loans and credit products.
