Mexico's security agencies boost operations against fuel theft and crime in Chiapas and Huasteca

The Secretaría de Seguridad del Pueblo (SSP) in Chiapas announced the recovery of 206,492 liters of illicit hydrocarbons between December 2024 and May 2026. The operation, led by Oscar Alberto Aparicio Avendaño, involved permanent patrols, intelligence work and coordination with federal, state and municipal forces to disrupt fuel‑theft networks.

In the Huasteca region of San Luis Potosí, the state security secretary Jesús Juárez Hernández reported that the Integral Security Strategy is being reinforced. A new municipal police chief, Amer Rodríguez, was appointed in Tamazunchale, and the State Civil Guard increased its rotating presence to improve surveillance, prevention and community outreach. Ongoing permanent operations have yielded arrests and seizures, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to public safety in the region.
