Mexico's SEP Announces 2026‑27 School Calendar and Virtual Teacher Sessions

The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) released the 2026‑2027 school calendar, setting 185 effective days for preschool, primary and secondary levels. Classes will resume on 31 August 2026, with winter break from 21 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, Holy Week break from 29 March to 9 April 2027, and summer break beginning 10 July 2027. The plan keeps a one‑week teacher recess in August, removes teacher workshops and advances the January return to school.

Separately, SEP’s basic‑education director, Sergio Enrique Resendiz Flores, announced an intensive virtual phase of the Consejo Técnico Escolar (CTE) for Tlaxcala. From 24 to 28 August 2026, more than 12,300 basic‑education teachers will participate online after a series of in‑person meetings scheduled between 17 and 21 August. The virtual format was chosen through dialogue with the SNTE sections 31 and 55 and aims to maintain academic depth while accommodating teachers’ needs.
