Mexico's SEP announces school break for late October

The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has confirmed a four-day break for basic education students in Mexico, spanning from Friday, October 30, to Monday, November 2. The suspension of academic activities for preschool, primary, and secondary students coincides with the second ordinary session of the School Technical Council and the traditional Day of the Dead commemorations.

While students will be off, teachers and school administrators are required to attend planning and evaluation sessions on Friday, October 30. The SEP noted that these breaks do not apply to private sector workers, as the holiday is not mandated by the Federal Labor Law. Students across all 32 states are expected to return to classrooms on Tuesday, November 3.
