Mexico's SEP releases 2026‑27 school calendar for basic and teacher education

The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has published the official school calendar for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Classes for pre‑school, primary and secondary students will begin on Monday 31 August 2026 and end on Friday 9 July 2027, covering 185 instructional days. Schools that train teachers will run 190 days, concluding on 13 July 2027.

Key dates include an intensive Council Technical School (CTE) phase from 24‑28 August 2026, eight regular CTE sessions throughout the year, and scheduled suspensions on 16 September, 2 and 16 November, 25 December, 1 January, 1 February, 15 March and 5 May. Winter vacation is set for 21 December 2026–5 January 2027 (classes resume 7 January); the Spring break runs 22 March–2 April 2027 (classes resume 5 April). Pre‑enrolment for the 2027‑2028 cycle will take place 2–12 February 2027.

The calendar applies nationwide to public and private schools incorporated in the Sistema Educativo Nacional, though some states (e.g., Morelos) may issue local adjustments. The schedule also retains an extra week of rest for teachers in August, a measure introduced under the current federal administration.
