Mexico's SEP releases recommended school supplies list for 2026‑2027 school year
The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) in Mexico announced the suggested list of school supplies for the 2026‑2027 academic cycle. The list is intended to guide families and educational communities in acquiring only the essential materials needed for basic classroom activities, emphasizing responsible use, reuse of existing resources, and minimizing the financial burden on households. Free Textbooks (Libros de Texto Gratuitos) and other government‑produced educational materials remain the core teaching resources, while the recommended supplies serve as a complement. For preschool, educators will determine the specific items, which may include paper, paints, brushes, clay, scissors, glue, and colored pencils. Primary school supplies vary by grade, with early grades focusing on large‑grid notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, blunt‑tip scissors, glue, colors, and white paper, and higher grades adding pens, rulers, smaller‑grid notebooks, and geometry sets. Secondary school students are advised to have a notebook per subject, with formats set by teachers. The new school year starts on 31 August, and teachers retain professional autonomy to suggest additional materials as needed.
