Mexico’s Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) released a tentative calendar for the 2026‑2027 school cycle. Classes for preschool, primary and secondary students are slated to begin on Monday 31 August 2026, with the academic year set to close on Friday 9 July 2027. Key holiday breaks include winter vacation (21 December 2026 – 6 January 2027), Semana Santa (22 March – 2 April 2027) and numerous official bridges such as Independence Day (16 September 2026) and the Day of the Dead (2 November 2026).

State education authorities echoed the federal dates. Yucatán’s Secretariat of Education confirmed the same 31 August start, while Guanajuato reported the conclusion of its 2025‑2026 cycle on 10 July 2026 for over 1.2 million students and announced the distribution of school supplies for the next year. The Guanajuato Secretariat of Education also issued a decree requiring private schools to carry accident‑insurance and structural‑safety plans before the new cycle, after a fatal accident at a private school earlier.

SEP additionally announced that, beyond academic assessment, it will introduce a mandatory mental‑health risk evaluation for students during the upcoming cycle.

The calendar remains provisional pending formal publication in the Official Gazette, but it provides a planning framework for millions of Mexican students and schools.
