Mexico's SEP sets July 16 start for 2026 summer school break

Mexico's Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) announced that the 2025‑2026 school year will end on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and that summer vacation for preschool, primary, secondary and other basic‑education students will begin on Thursday, July 16. The recess is expected to last roughly six weeks, after which classes are slated to resume on Monday, August 31, 2026, pending publication of the official calendar.

Prior to the holiday, teachers will attend an intensive two‑day training workshop on July 16‑17, and on Tuesday, July 14, schools will distribute final grade reports to parents and guardians. The SEP has not yet released the full official calendar for the 2026‑2027 cycle, urging families to monitor updates in the Official Gazette.
