Mexico's Tren Maya cargo contracts exceed 4 billion pesos
The Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) has awarded contracts totaling more than 4.1 billion pesos to equip the Tren Maya cargo project. These agreements, signed in January 2024, involve the acquisition of locomotives and various freight wagons.
One contract, valued at approximately 2.08 billion pesos, was awarded to ETD Solutions and Personas y Paquetes por Aire for 19 locomotives. Investigations indicate that Personas y Paquetes por Aire, which previously specialized in aircraft parts and pilot training, only added railway-related activities to its corporate purpose after receiving the award.
A second contract worth approximately 2.09 billion pesos was assigned to a consortium including Brameit, Aviatek, and Travic. This agreement covers the supply of gondolas, tank cars, hoppers, boxcars, and intermodal platforms intended for transporting various goods, including fuel.
