Mezdra, Bulgaria crash kills two teenagers

A 21‑year‑old driver with only five months of licence fled control of his car on the road between Mezdra and the village of Bodelenc, striking a scooter carrying a 16‑year‑old girl and a 17‑year‑old boy. Both teenagers were killed at the scene. The driver, identified as Dimitar Todorov, was detained for 72 hours and a court placed him under pre‑trial detention.

Local authorities declared three days of mourning. The deceased boy was a member of the Botev football fan club, while the girl was a volleyball player. Their school announced a period of silence. The victims’ mother said, “He was responsible, he loved her… it is tragic that another child decided their fate.” The accident reignited concerns about road safety for inexperienced drivers in the region.
