MG 07 electric coupe launches with pre‑sales as design plagiarism accusations surface

SAIC‑owned MG unveiled its new MG 07 coupe‑sedan, positioning it as a “smart pure‑blood coupe for young people.” The model entered mass production at the Zhengzhou plant, with the first unit rolling off the line on July 2 and the facility reaching its 3 million‑vehicle milestone. Pre‑sales are set to begin on July 29, with prices ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 yuan. The MG 07 will be offered in pure‑electric and plug‑in hybrid versions, features an 800 V platform, LiDAR, and the Momenta R7 world‑model AI driving system, and claims a range of up to 840 km.

Controversy erupted when MG’s senior manager Chen Cui halted a live‑stream after net‑users accused the MG 07’s fastback design of copying the Porsche Taycan and Xiaomi SU7. Viewers flooded the chat with remarks such as “looks like a Porsche” and “cops design,” prompting the executive to become visibly emotional and end the broadcast early. MG defended the styling by citing the brand’s historic 1962 MGB GT heritage, insisting the design is an evolution rather than a copy.
